Family Literacy Nights Bringing Stories and Smiles to Trinity Day Care
By Paula Bartz, Executive Director
There’s something magical about a child curled up with a book, eyes wide with wonder as they listen to a story unfold. At Trinity Day Care, we believe that magic grows even stronger when families read together. That’s why we’re thrilled to host Family Literacy Nights, a special program made possible through a generous grant from United Way of Rock River Valley.
Family Literacy Nights are open to all families in our community with children aged 3–8. These fun-filled evenings are about more than books — they’re about bonding, laughing, creating, and making memories together. Every event is designed to spark a love of reading and empower parents as their child’s first and most important teacher.
Licensed through the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services and recognized by the Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS) National Learning Network, the center offers developmentally appropriate programs and has earned the prestigious Silver Circle of Quality from QRIS. Trinity’s philosophy emphasizes learning through play, focusing on building children’s confidence and social skills while fostering strong partnerships with parents.
During each Family Literacy Night, we transform our space into a celebration of stories, creativity, and connection. Families can enjoy:
- Storytime with engaging read-alouds that bring books to life
- Creative play with felt boards where kids become storytellers
- Crafts and activities like bookmarks and puppets tied to the night’s theme
- Free books to take home and grow their personal libraries
The best part? It’s all about having fun together.
With each event, the excitement grows. More families return month after month, building a community around the joy of reading. One parent shared: “This can continue to be an incredible experience for the children.”
We’d love for you to join us at our next Family Literacy Night! Bring your child, bring your curiosity, and bring your joy for stories — we’ll bring the books, the crafts, and the fun.
