Every couple of years, the staff and board of United Way of Ogle County get the chance to review new applications for funding for services throughout the county. This offers a unique opportunity for the volunteer review committee, consisting of board members and other members of the community, to consider proposals for a wide variety of important services for residents of Ogle County. Given the fact that our current application period falls over the holiday season, we here at United Way are particularly reflective on the spirit and acts of generosity and support that it takes to raise the funds that fund so many important programs in the area.

As is the case with most organizations, we like to think that our work is unique in many ways. Yet there is one aspect that we at United Way are particularly proud of. We are powered by thousands of individual donors who come from a wide variety of backgrounds and occupations. Whether it’s a factory worker from Rochelle, a doctor in Oregon, or a retiree living in Byron, each donor to United Way is part of a larger effort to ensure that all residents have access to the services they need to improve or maintain their quality of life. If you live in Ogle County, chances are that you or someone you know has benefited from the services supported by United Way!

The vast majority of the support we receive comes from the annual workplace campaign, where donors have the option to make a reoccurring gift that is deducted right through their paycheck. Altogether, residents in Ogle County raised over $200,000 in the last campaign. All of these donations stay in the community and are invested in programs and services that address the critical needs of our friends and neighbors. This includes health services and transportation for seniors, legal assistance for farm workers, and support services for victims of domestic violence.

Right now, we are accepting applications for high-quality programs that provide critical services in Ogle County. Nonprofits who have a record of programming in Ogle County for least five years (and that also meet the rest of our eligibility criteria) are invited to apply for the current open grant cycle. You can find all of the information you’ll need at the link below. Applications are due at 5 p.m. on January 23rd. If you have any questions about eligibility, the application or anything else grant-related, feel free to send an email or give Paul Nolley a call using the contact information below.

From all of us at United Way, we wish you a happy holiday season and hope you will continue to LIVE UNITED in 2019.
