Family Friendly Workplace Application

An important component of “living united” is supporting families in our region.  For the past 3 years, we have led an initiative to recognize Family Friendly Workplaces in our community.  The Family Friendly Workplace designation was developed to recognize organizations that are especially supportive of employees and their families.  Since its inception in January of 2005, we have awarded the designation to about 40 local businesses and non-profits.  Throughout the year, we recognize our Family Friendly Workplaces in several ways, such as a special press release to local media about the initiative, via our website, and at our annual LIVE UNITED Community Thank-You and Awards Ceremony in February.  We feel this is a tremendous tool for companies to use as they recruit new employees and market their products and services.

In order to become a Family Friendly Workplace, an employer must meet the following criteria, selected by a panel of local human resource professionals:

• Flextime, including flexible schedules for school conferences, events and school closings, etc.
• Health insurance offered to employees and their families with employer contributing a reasonable amount toward premiums.
• Flexible Spending Account for dependent care costs.
• Leave Time; paid or unpaid – to allow families to deal with birth, bereavement, and other issues without worrying about job loss.
• Employee Assistance Program to help employees and their families deal with crisis and other situations.
