United Way of Rock River Valley is more than just a fundraiser — we are a community leader. We lead the hand-raisers and the game-changers when we fight for the health, education, and financial stability of every person in every neighborhood.

Who are the hand-raisers and the game-changers? They are donors and volunteers who understand that we're stronger together than we are alone.

United Way relies on donors and volunteers to continue to be part of the fight. Because their passion, expertise and resources help the fight become a win — a win that's not just a short-term contribution, but a long-term solution.

Solutions like United Way's Parenthood Promise.

Through the Parenthood Promise Initiative, we are increasing the number of children successfully graduating from high school. Together with Youth Services Network, we promise parents at Ellis Elementary School that we will help make sure their child graduates from high school. Parents then make the promise to do everything in their power to make this happen — having a car that works and a job that sustains their family, and providing safe housing. And they must be involved in their children's lives.

Results: Attendance at Ellis School is 5% higher for Parenthood Promise students and Parent Engagement has increased by 36%.

United Way has created other solutions too, like I READ and Success By 6, which directly increase the reading levels of children. The Black Male Initiative matches mentors with young men ages 18 – 24 to help them find hope so their education and employment dreams can be realized.

During our community campaign, I encourage everyone to raise their hand and become a game-changer. Volunteer passionately through wevolunteer.org. Give generously through your workplace or donate online now. Remember, 100% of your resources stay right here in the Rock River Valley changing lives and giving hope.

We have one life to live. To live better we must LIVE UNITED.
