At a young age, Nick Kavala was diagnosed with a developmental disorder that affects socialization, communication, and use of imagination. Facing a life of constant care from his family, he set out to prove his ability to live independently. Through his high school special education transition program, Nick connected with Village of Progress, a United Way of Ogle County program, that offers training services for persons with disabilities.

Now as an adult, Nick is employed full-time, resides in his own apartment, and champions others with disabilities to achieve their goals.

Stories like Nick illustrate the incredible impact United Way makes on the Rock River Valley, especially within Ogle County. In fact, United Way invests in programs and services that positively impact 1 out of 2 residents living in Ogle County. An advisory board comprised of Ogle County volunteers help address community needs and make investment recommendations.

Donate now to support programs and services that impact Ogle County families.
