Every year, drug manufacturers and health insurance companies negotiate the coverage of each medication on the market. Sometimes, the insurance companies decide they will no longer cover a drug that they have covered in the past. If you anticipate losing insurance coverage on one of your prescription medications next year, our partners at FamilyWize Community Service Partnership say to not panic.

In their Ask An Expert blog "What To Do If Insurance Drops Your Medication in 2018", FamilyWize offers some steps that you can take to control your costs.

1. Research the cost of your medication at different pharmacies in your area.
2. Speak to your doctor and pharmacist about your alternatives.
3. Sign up for a free prescription discount card.

Through a nationwide partnership with FamilyWize, United Way offers the Rockford IL community access to the free prescription discount card. The FamilyWize Prescription Discount Card can be used by anyone, including people without insurance and those with insurance who have high deductibles or take medication not covered by their plan. The discount card can immediately lower the cost of medicine by an average of around 40 percent. To use FamilyWize, download the app.
