NWIBT invests in school readiness initiative

NWIBT check presentation

(Rockford, Ill. - 11/07/2016) – Representatives from Northwestern Illinois Building & Construction Trades Council presented a check in the amount of $5,000 to United Way of Rock River Valley in support of its Success By 6 school readiness initiative. Funds were raised through the annual Building Trades Golf Play Day event held in June 2016.

After the brief check presentation, union members introduced and read November's school readiness book, Mouse's First Day of School by Lauren Thompson, to pre-k students at Donald C. Parker Early Education Center. The book is part of United Way's school readiness initiative, which supports parents and early learning educators to ensure children, from birth to age 6, are prepared to enter school ready to learn.

Brad Long, president of NWIBT, along with Marco Ramirez (Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local 6), Larry Rowlett and Brad Williams (IBEW Local 364), Mark Richeson and Dave Whitmore (Ironworkers Local 498), and Tim Huff and Bob Wooden (Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 23) presented the check to United Way on Monday, November 7, 2016. This is the fourth year in which Northwestern Illinois Building & Construction Trades Council directed proceeds from their Golf Play Day to United Way, totaling over $25,000.
