Northwestern Illinois Building & Construction Trades present check in support of school readiness

Northwestern Illinois Building and Construction Trades Council

(Rockford, Ill. - 12/09/2015) – Representatives from Northwestern Illinois Building & Construction Trades Council presented a check in the amount of $8,500 to United Way of Rock River Valley in support of its Success By 6 school readiness initiative. Funds were raised through the annual Building Trades Golf Play Day event held in June 2015.

After the check presentation, union members introduced and read December's school readiness book, Lola at the Library by Anna McQuinn, to pre-k students at Fairview Early Childhood Center. The book is part of United Way's school readiness initiative, which supports parents and early learning educators to ensure children, from birth to age 6, are prepared to enter school ready to learn.

Building Trades members Brad Long, president, Mark Richeson, secretary/treasurer, and Jamie Sanchez, Carpenters Local 792 and Brad Williams, IBEW Local 364 presented the check to United Way's Paul Logli, President/CEO, and Trisha Welte, AFL-CIO Labor Liaison on Monday, December 7, 2015. This is the third year in which Northwestern Illinois Building & Construction Trades Council directed proceeds from their Golf Play Day to United Way, totaling over $20,000.
