New neighborhood group cleaning up crime along Peach Court

Zion West Neighborhood Association

(Rockford, Ill. - 10/29/2015) – Zion West Neighborhood Association is hosting a cleanup project along Peach Court in the Ellis Heights neighborhood. The project serves as the association's first group activity and immediately addresses resident concerns over the blight and safety of the street. Peach Court, located between School and West Jefferson streets, has become a barrier between the Fairgrounds Valley public housing apartments and the larger neighborhood. With overgrown brush and litter, the street is a target of regular criminal activity. Zion West Neighborhood Association is part of West Gateway Coalition, which encompasses the Ellis Heights neighborhood.

United Way of Rock River Valley has been working together with West Gateway Coalition and Zion West Neighborhood Association to empower the group to become more effective and strategic in the Ellis Heights neighborhood. The partnership is a result of United Way's Strong Neighborhood initiative, which is addressing the widespread social and economic issues affecting residents in two of the regions' most underserved neighborhoods.
