United Way 211 Alert

United Way of Rock River Valley has placed the United Way 2-1-1 information and referral line on alert in response to the Hazardous Weather Outlook issued by National Weather Service for Northern Illinois, which includes Winnebago and Ogle counties. Dangerously low wind chill values combined with blowing and drifting snow conditions are expected for the surrounding area starting today thru Sunday, January 11.

United Way 2-1-1 operators are ready to respond to incoming calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week and provide winter weather emergency information. Residents in Winnebago and Ogle counties are urged to dial 2-1-1 or 888-865-9903 for information on warming centers and emergency shelters. All calls are free and call specialists support multiple languages.

United Way reminds everyone to take precautions against exposure to cold weather and using various heat sources like space heaters. Be sure to check on neighbors, especially the elderly, and to practice safe winter weather driving.

United Way 2-1-1 works with local government agencies and human services organizations to provide the public a source for any cold weather related information.
