2013 Campaign Projections Announced; Includes $1 Million Endowment Gift from Local Philanthropist

(Rockford, Ill. - 03/12/2014) - United Way of Rock River Valley's 2013 Community Campaign is expected to reach $5.6 million, a 20 percent increase from last year's campaign totals. The projected campaign total includes a $1 million endowment gift from Rockford-area philanthropist Janet Kjellstrom. This is United Way's second $1 million endowment gift to date. The announcement was made yesterday to a crowd of nearly 325 during United Way's 2013 Campaign Celebration Luncheon held at Giovanni's Restaurant and Convention Center. The event also recognized organizations with successful workplace campaigns.

The United Way 2013 Community Campaign officially runs through June 30, 2014. Most organizations have reported their pledges for the year, however. To date, highlights from the 2013 Community Campaign include:

  • 35 percent of reported campaigns increased campaign pledge totals;
  • 25 percent of reported campaigns saw an increase in employee participation;
  • over half of leadership donors, those that give at above the $1,000 level, increased their gift;
  • organizations in the education, medical, professional and non-profits sector posted campaign gains.

During the program, Campaign Cabinet Chair Rebecca Epperson, President of PR Etc., acknowledged Danfoss for setting the campaign tone by running their United Way campaign before the official kickoff. As a pacesetter campaign, Danfoss increased their year-over-year total by 21 percent. In addition to the program, several organizations were recognized for successful workplace campaigns. Categories included increases in employee participation, average employee gift and total dollars raised.
