United Way 2-1-1 placed on alert due to Hazardous Cold Weather

United Way of Rock River Valley has placed the United Way 2-1-1 information and referral line on alert in response to the Hazardous Weather Outlook issued by National Weather Service for Winnebago and Ogle counties. Dangerously low temperatures and wind chill conditions are expected for the surrounding area starting today thru Thursday, January 9.

United Way 2-1-1 operators are ready to respond to incoming calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week and provide winter weather emergency information. Residents in Winnebago and Ogle counties are urged to dial 2-1-1 or 800-570-7284 for information on warming centers and emergency shelters.

United Way reminds everyone to take precautions against exposure to cold weather and using various heat sources like space heaters. Be sure to check on neighbors, especially the elderly.

United Way 2-1-1 is working with local government agencies and human services organizations to provide the public a source for any cold weather related information.
